Sixth Form at The King Edward VI School is large and vibrant, offering a large selection of A Level courses. The curriculum is organised into department/subject areas. Our typical curriculum offer is Three PLUS. All students will study a minimum of three subjects plus enrichment, students with an Average Point Score of 6 or more will study three A Levels and one AS/equivalent, students with an Average Point Score of 8 or more will study four A Levels. All subjects are taught over 9 periods per fortnight, with additional independent study periods allocated.

Overall Entry Requirements

All students need a minimum of five GCSE passes (any subject) at grade 4 or better to study in Sixth Form.

  • Students with a predicted Average Point Score (APS) of lower than 6 – Please choose three subjects from the four option pools. One pool should state ‘No Subject’.
  • Students with a predicted Average Point Score (APS) between 6 and 8 – Please choose three full A Level/equivalent and Core Maths/EPQ/AS French/AS Spanish
  • Students with a predicted Average Point Score (APS) of 8 or more – Please choose four subjects or three full A Level/equivalent and Core Maths/EPQ/AS French/AS Spanish

Subject Information

Formal examinations will take place at the end of Year 13 for most students, with internal assessments throughout Sixth Form. Parents/Carers are informed of progress with three Grade Updates and an invitation to two parents evenings per year.
